Overriding Questions:

Which Essential Practices does Smartboard Technology connect to?

How might you use apply this learning to your School Improvment Plan and next PLC?

Essential Practice

This session will begin with the Essential Practice of setting Learning Goals which clearly identify what students are expected to know and be able to do, in language that students can readily understand. Principals will be given the opportunity to spend 'hands on time' with SMART Notebook tools and explore not only how these tools can be used in all Essential Practices (for example; gradual release, descriptive feedback, accountable talk...) but also can be used in their PLCs.

How to get started:

First: Install SMART Notebook through the Technology Enabled Learning Environment Wiki link

Next Step: View the how to video or open some of the attached links

Classroom Example:

Language Arts: As shown in the attached video, student work is displayed on the Smartboard. Positive features of the work can then be highlighted, work can be peer edited, and opportunities for accountable talk are provided.

Classroom Example:

Mathematics: The following Polycom lesson demonstrates a 3-part math lesson using the Smartboard

Additional Resources: Some of the following are frequently used Smartboard tools.
